Morning After Girls

Prelude: ep’s 1 & 2
Rainbow Quartz Records

ep's 1&2

Opening with an eerie instrumental piece, the Morning After Girls take the standard psychedelic pop expected of Rainbow Quartz, and scuff it up a bit, making it more moody and intense than many of their label mates.

The disc is filled with energetic guitar riffs and off kilter screaming, while offering more lilting, softer pieces to fill in the gaps. It’s a highly textured sound that keeps you guessing, offering surprises just as you think you have them figured out.

What starts off dark and brooding takes a turn for the sunny, then veers out into melancholy country a few more songs in, and it all seems to loop back into itself to form a beautifully layered cohesive unit of music.

Slightly hard to get into on first listen due to the ups and downs and unexpected twists and turns, the Morning After Girls surprise and delight on subsequent spins offering more than just another psychedelic pop album.
