Sarah McLachlan
Bloom Nettwerk Records
For diehard puritans who believe any piece of music Sarah lays down should not be tampered with, will not appreciate these re-produced/remixed versions of her most popular tunes, mostly from her 2003 release, Afterglow.
In seeking the contributors for her latest remix album, McLachlan didn’t limit herself to dance and electronic this time around. Sarah lends her vocals to DMC’s (of Run DMC) ‘Just Like Me’ on the chorus (‘Cat’s in the Cradle’ by Harry and Sandy Chapin) with Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am adding his skills to the mix, providing a hip-hop break to the drum & bass in the electronic-based album.
As perfect as her delivery is, her angelic sound is amplified in the ambient mix of ‘Ice’ by Dusted and the Hyper remix of ‘Stupid’, creating a new appreciation for the songs in their richness and darkness. Talvin Singh turns the ballad ‘Answer’ into a beautiful dance between Sarah’s vocals, the sitar and tabla. Canada’s Junior Boys single out her vocals to complete the album in the haunting version of ‘Fumbling Towards Ecstasy’ by substituting the melodies with their own electronic rhythms giving the song a different vibe but keeping it identifiable.
With a list of ten popular DJ’s and producers interpreting one artist, this collective will bring McLachlan’s music to a new audience and possibly inspire her already enthusiastic admirers.
