Corpse Bride

Tim Burton’s latest stop-motion animation is a dark love triangle (of sorts) with catchy tunes, quick wit and likeable characters.

Depp is great as the voice of Victor, the reluctant hero who, theday before he is to marry his true love, the lovely Victoria (Watson), finds himself accidentally married to an attractive, but decomposing, bride (Bonham Carter). His corpse bride bawls her eye out and gets advice from a maggot that pops out of her eye socket.

How does Victorresolve his situation? You’ll have to see the movie to find out but this we can tell you: the ending will leave you dying for more.

Audiences will be pleasantly surprised to see Christopher Lee, Tracey Ullman andJoanna Lumley’s names come up in the opening credits, then listening closely trying to figure out who was who.

It was interesting that Burton portrayed the land of the dead as morecolourful (literally and figuratively), than the black and white land of the living. Seems the dead in the 19th century have a lot more fun than the living - a lot of dancing, drinking and singing happens in the afterlife. The tunes had the signature sound of Danny Elfman and were reminiscent of A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Corpse Brideis lively and entertaining for young and old alike. Thepace is quick, the music lively, and the humour witty.
