Fark.com
http://www.fark.com
Fark - a meaningless, innocuous word used in lieu of the word ‘fuck’ - is the ideal title of this website which provides daily links to legitimate news stories published worldwide by mainstream media organizations; the purpose of which is to highlight odd or strange news events.
Each item provides a link to the original source and publisher of the story in question, and Fark gives a rating as to whether the story is ironic, weird, cool, obvious, sick, amusing, and so on.
A random sampling of news links the day this review was being etched offered up an ABC News story (rated ‘interesting’) on how British music fans set a new world's record when they sent more than 2 million text messages in a matter of seconds in an attempt to get tickets for London's Live 8 concert. Or a Yahoo! News story (rated “hero”) of an 87-year-old Australian man who fought off a would-be burglar with his right shoe.
There’s a blog and message board for readers to leave their comments on the stories posted, as well as subsections providing online news junkies (with a sense of humour) a plethora of information to peruse.
Fun, informative, and infectious, Fark.com provides a compelling view of what’s going on in the world beyond your own city, country, and web-surfing habits.
